The Mauserts
Kurt, Claire Beth, Kirtan, Nathan (on Beth's Lap)
Kurt lives outside Schuylerville with his wife, Beth, and his three youngest children--Nathan (11), Claire (8), and Oliver (16 months). His eldest son, Kirtan (26), is teaching in Thailand.
Kurt was born in Watertown, NY, in 1957 to John and Loretta Mausert. John Mausert worked for the State of New York. When he was working at SUNY Binghamton, John died of a heart attack when Kurt was 11. His two older brothers, Mark and Eric, were 16 and 18. The family returned to Schenectady the following year in 1969.
In 1975, Kurt graduated Mohansen High School . He attended college in Albany and Los Angeles (see resume' below). Prior to school, he worked in a number of positions including publishing (writing subject matter indexes), music, and security.
In 1979, Kurt's eldest brother, Eric, was murdered while coming to the aid of a young man that was being attacked . The killer fled to his native Philippines before he was indicted. There was no extradition treaty at the time. After discovering that a treaty was finally ratified, Kurt spent the last few years working for the extradition and prosecution of his brother's killer.
Inspired in part by his family's tragedy, Kurt applied to law school. Prior to and during law school, Kurt worked as a freelance comic book colorist artist to support himself and his son, Kirtan.
