About Kurt
Mausert family before snorkeling, January, 2008 The Mauserts Kurt lives outside Schuylerville with his wife, Beth, and his three youngest children--Nathan (11), Claire (8), and Oliver (16 months). His eldest son, Kirtan (26), is teaching in Thailand. Kurt was born in Watertown, NY, in 1957 to John and Loretta Mausert. John Mausert worked for the State of New York. When he was working at SUNY Binghamton, John died of a heart attack when Kurt was 11. His two older brothers, Mark and Eric, were 16 and 18. The family returned to Schenectady the following year in 1969. In 1975, Kurt graduated Mohansen High School . He attended college in Albany and Los Angeles (see resume' below). Prior to school, he worked in a number of positions including publishing (writing subject matter indexes), music, and security. In 1979, Kurt's eldest brother, Eric, was murdered while coming to the aid of a young man that was being attacked . The killer fled to his native Philippines before he was indicted. There was no extradition treaty at the time. After discovering that a treaty was finally ratified, Kurt spent the last few years working for the extradition and prosecution of his brother's killer. Inspired in part by his family's tragedy, Kurt applied to law school. Prior to and during law school, Kurt worked as a freelance comic book colorist artist to support himself and his son, Kirtan.
After serving as a prosecutor in Concord, NH, Kurt returned home to upstate New York in 1988. Admitted to the New York Bar in January of 1989, Kurt started his own law practice that Spring. At the same time, he met his wife, Beth. They were married in 1993 and have three children. Beth is a Skidmore graduate and a certified yoga teacher in Saratoga Springs. For two years (1992 - 1994) Kurt practiced law in Reno, Nevada, but he soon found out what many others knew: Saratoga is a hard place to leave. He and Beth returned at the end of 1994. Kurt has practiced and lived in Saratoga County since that time. Kurt's mother passed at the age of 87 in April of 2004 after a seven year struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
Kurt has trained in the martial arts (Kempo) and works out regularly at Global Fitness in Saratoga Springs.
For the last three years, Kurt has been president of a U.S. branch of Food for Life (Care for Vrindavan). This not for profit charity supports two schools in rural northern India. These schools take in students from among the poorest of the poor and provide those children with food, clothes, medicine and education. Kurt and Beth also sponsor nine children in those schools. For more information, please visit the web site at www.fflvrindavan.org . Kurt is a musician of very little renown and so has to practice law for a living. You can see a Mausert family photo album here. • Admitted to the Bar (State & Federal Courts) |
