Dear Kurt,
I was a Judge in the Town Court of Lake Luzerne from 1995 through February of 2006. Now that I am retired I feel honored to be able to comment on your running for Family Court Judge (a sitting Judge can’t make endorsements, but a retired one can speak freely).

While working as a Judge I had dealt with many attorneys. For the most part they did their duties well. But, there are always a few that stick out as doing just a little better and applying more effort than the rest. You, Kurt, are one of the few that I always saw do just that: apply the extra effort. You were always prepared to move forward and had your research or offers ready, (as I always liked to say, you always had your homework done). This not only helped your clients, but it kept the Court moving forward and made the best use of our time.
When you were involved in trials you impressed me with your preparedness and professionalism. I cannot think of one time when you weren’t completely professional, courteous and a total gentleman. Yet you always had that personal side that made me very comfortable having you in my Court. An occasional chuckle or good natured comment was not out of the ordinary to hear from you. That always left the feeling that you were still just an average guy.

Now that you are running for the Family Court Judge I wish you the best in that attempt. I sincerely believe that you will make an excellent Judge. Sir, you certainly have my vote.

Wishing you the very best,
                                                                                                                                                    James W. Krywy

It may seem odd that a man who has been a police department prosecutor for twenty years should endorse a defense attorney for a judgeship. It shouldn’t. Justice is a two-way street. If you only go one way on a two-way street, you only see half of what’s going on, and you end up traveling in circles.

Kurt Mausert is one of the brightest and best-grounded trial lawyers among the many I’ve worked with for over 30 years. He brought me in on one case in which he was fighting for a client who had been wrongly deprived of his permit to carry a concealed handgun in the state of New York. Mausert overcame prejudiced and possibly perjured testimony from the opposing side, and convinced the judge to restore his client’s rights. It was a brilliant piece of trial advocacy.

The murder of his brother some years ago taught Mausert to relate to the suffering of other crime victims. His career has taught him to recognize that sometimes, through no fault of their own, good people stand unjustly accused. His life experience, trial experience, and strong common sense have made him an eminently fair man.

Kurt Mausert’s commitment to Justice is seasoned in a deep understanding of the law, and a profound personal sense of fairness. He will bring logic and ethics alike to his bench. The citizens of New York deserve a man of his judicial temperament on the Bench, and I believe he will serve them superbly if elected Judge.

Respectfully submitted,

Kurt Mausert's concern for the welfare and well being of children has been a big part of his life for the 35 plus years I've known him—from his volunteering to participate in the biannual trips to the Wilton Developmental Center at Mount McGregor during high school, to his joining me to attend comic book conventions in Syracuse, NY to benefit the Make A Wish Foundation, to the pro bono work he did for Family Court cases in Warren and Washington Counties, to his exemplary work with Food for Vrindavan.

I cannot think of a person who is better suited to be a Family Court Judge.

sincerely,

Tom Vincent

I have known Kurt Mausert for the last 10 years. Our first meeting was to gain support for our welfare activities we were conducting in India (fflvrindavan.org), a friend of mine introduced me to Kurt. I must say that I was immediately taken by his sincere dedication and commitment to help the needy. In 2004 we were privileged to have Kurt and his family with us in Vrindavan India for two weeks. Again his sincere concern for those needy soul was pervasive and irresistible, since then he has been of great help to us and specifically to so many children who has taken under his care. At present Kurt is sponsoring nine children's education and well being as well as giving extra help to the families.

Since 2006 he has been running our charity outfit in USA, Care for Vrindavan Inc. out of his Law office and with 0% admin cost.
Even though sure enough Kurt and I come from two very different cultures I always felt very comfortable with him and I consider him like a brother, a real brother with a big heart and a clear view of who he is and where he is going.

I only wish we had more Kurt Mausert in this world!

Thanks
Yours
