Family Law Experience
Family Court handles cases involving custody, visitation, adoption, family offenses, and child support. I have practiced in that Court for 19 years. For much of that time, I have served as "attorney for the child" (formerly known as "law guardian"). Ensuring that the best interests of the child are served is the goal of the Family Court. The attorney for the child works for those interests not from a neutral position but as an active advocate for the child client. I have represented children in both Saratoga and Warren Counties in every kind of case that comes before the Family Court In addition to being an attorney for the child, I have represented adult litigants in custody, visitation and support matters. And you need a certain measure of courage as well. Of all the Courts in our United States, Family Court has the highest incidence of violence against Judges, and attorneys. I have experienced death threats in my practice there. One cannot be deterred by such adversity because that it is this court where lawyers and judges can do the most good for the most vulnerable, the children. I have known the satisfaction of doing a good day’s work in Family Court. Protecting a child from an abusive parent, helping a parent get the help he or she needs to be reunited with their children, having custody given to the parent who has the best interests of their children at heart, giving a child a sense of hope and being cared for...it is the best of the many rewards I have been fortunate enough to receive as an attorney. |
